What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Cabin in the Woods is an astonishing meta-feat, capable of being funny, strange, and scary -- frequently all at the same time.

The Cabin in the Woods | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Deborah Ross The Spectator This is, I know, a self-aware film: its clichés are parodies of horror clichés generally, but to subvert a form, it should, first and foremost, work as an entertainment, and it most surely does not. Aug 31, 2018 Full Review The Cabin in the Woods | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Eric Kohn indieWire Ranks among one of the most wryly self-aware works of American pop culture entertainment in years. Rated: B+ Sep 27, 2015 Full Review The Cabin in the Woods | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Bruce Diones New Yorker The filmmakers are less interested in providing a slow buildup to their frights than in splattering the clichés of the form in funny, spirited ways. Oct 6, 2014 Full Review The Cabin in the Woods | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Don Shanahan Cinephile Hissy Fit Podcast Too many unfulfilled angles from the heap of concept attempted. Jan 18, 2024 Full Review The Cabin in the Woods | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Savina Petkova A Good Movie To Watch It still carries the whiff of the late 2000s' misogyny in the way it portrays women and it certainly doesn't try hard enough to disrupt the genre's opposition to female sexuality. Rated: 71 Nov 7, 2023 Full Review The Cabin in the Woods | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Feels like a greatest hits of the best horror-comedies of the last few decades, while also injecting plenty of originality. Руслан Г максимальна оцінка. фільм неймовірний. повний захват. почуття переповнюють. гарно провів час Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/23/24 Full Review sophisticated h ehh, messed up but ehh Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/11/24 Full Review Estevan M one of the worst films ever made, I hope all the actors are embarrassed for being in this movie. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/03/24 Full Review babarizam D They are terrible actors, all of them. Film contradicts its own story line for example technically all players should die but in japan, everyone survived which made the plea of the CEO meaningless. Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/02/24 Full Review Aidan B The ending was a bit over the top, but overall "The Cabin in the Woods" is a fairly enjoyable film that offers plenty of scares. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review Audience Member Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard collaborate to offer a familiar but modern spin on the average horror film This turns over so many of the familiar tropes with all kinds of glee The story focuses on a shady company involving many employees then we cut to a group of typical teenage stereotypes from the jock to the stoner to the virgin to the nerd to the loose girl They embark on a familiar scenario going to an abandoned cabin in the woods and unleash a supernatural evil killing them off But in secret they are part of a ritual sacrifice being offered to spare humanity being destroyed Once they find out the inter workings of the reason they're there they try to change things Still one of my favorite films of 2012 This has an amazing cast; Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, and Amy Acker Got amazing reviews but got lost in the shuffle box office wise It's got that same setup combing both horror and comedy since 'Scream' going over the usual tropes in the genre from the stereotypical characters to general scenarios and even being heavily influenced by the 'Hunger Games' providing entertainment and bloodshed as a voyeuristic game of control I loved how this movie manages to pull the rug from underneath and turning everything in on itself particularly the last half which is my favorite part and gets so crazy That cameo by I was so surprised as well It's clever, funny, and challenges filmmakers to think outside their creativity Quite the meta-feat blending so many things together and works as a cool love letter to many horror movies This should get more attention Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review Read all reviews
